What the World Needs Now
On podcast hosts who don't just interview you — they build with you.
There's a song — Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote it — "What the World Needs Now Is Love." I've had it running through my head all week, because I've been living inside the answer.
In the last few weeks I've sat down with podcast hosts who did something I didn't expect. They didn't just interview me. They partnered with me.
Lucy and Hannah at Becoming Lucy gave me my first international interview and treated my story like it belonged in the room. David Kaufer at Lighter Side brought his son Stone into the conversation and let a kid's questions do what grown-up questions can't. Antoinette Blake, the DE Divahherself, reached me all the way from Delaware — and Delaware reached right back into my memory and brought me an old friend I hadn't thought of in twenty years. And this morning, Dr. Rita sat with me for her Substack and talked bodies, minds, and the bravery of listening to both.
Here's what made each one monumental — not just significant, monumental. Every single one of them helped me create something for my podcast too. I record my guest spots with permission, and I carry pieces home for Season 6 of Multiplesuperb!nesS. They gave me their platform, and then they helped me build mine.
That's not how it usually goes. Usually you show up, you talk, you thank them, you leave. But this — this was easy. Natural. Business the way it ought to be: two people creating together, trading audiences like neighbors trading sugar.
We're technically savvy elders, figuring out the tools together. And I want to say their names out loud, because kinship like this doesn't come around every day, and when it does, you don't keep it quiet.
To Lucy, Hannah, David, Stone, Antoinette, and Rita: thank you. Let's keep making things.
